What Does a Brave Culture Look Like?

I’ve seen companies step up and be brave in rugged times through my work in crisis communications. During the past 20 years I’ve worked with Fortune 500 and other top organizations in their most challenging moments. Companies and their executives have an incredible ability to move fast and make bold decisions when it matters most.

But what I’ve found is that when the crisis is over, most leaders get trapped in the day-to-day grind of putting out fires and put aside being bold and brave. It’s human nature to default to the safe and comfortable.  And so most companies retreat to their old ways.

That’s why companies need a brave culture. Which weaves bravery into the company’s fabric. Which supports employees who take calculated risks and make bold decisions. Which encourages employees to float crazy ideas that may be the next big thing. Which embraces failure and setbacks.

When we stick with “play it safe” we fall behind. We don’t grow as fast because our teams don’t share their best ideas and solve problems quickly enough so they can create leading edge products and services.

Going forward let’s focus on how you and your team can bring the bravery inside you into action. So you innovate and help the company grow every day. So you help create a truly brave culture.
